It is focused for international research project on tropical peat land. Besides University of Palangkaraya, the project is supported by Nottingham University, United Kingdom and Hokkaido University, Japan.

LAHG is located in Kereng Bangkirai and this area covers 50,000 hectares of forest and has rich biodiversity. The vegetations can be found in LAHG are such as Meranti, Ramin, Kahui, Blangiran, Bintangor, pitchers plant (Kantong Semar), orchids, pandanus, Rasau, Kelakai and et cetera. Whereas the animals are such as orang utans, gibbons ( Kalaweit ), bats, lizards, birds, snakes, butterflies, fish and many more. Within this area there are about 500 orang utans and they are under threat of extinction.

LAHG is a part of Borneo forest, lungs of the world. It is very unique and exotic forest. It is muddy and has clear brown water. When you go inside the forest it is a bit dark because only a little sunlight can penetrate it because of a lot of green leaves of the trees. They absorb much carbon dioxide and other harmful gasses and produce much oxygen that we need for life and for the whole world. Besides it also provides foods and medicine for animals and human beings.

In the forest there is a base camp. It consists of some buildings for researchers and staffs to stay in or for research. One of them is situated in the middle. It is like a terrace but can be filled with 40 people. SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya usually uses this place for its activity. In this place there are available some toilets, electricity and running water too. So, nothing is to worry about if you want to have peepee or clean your dirty shoes after trekking down the forest or planting trees.
